I’ve never been one to subscribe to “design trends”. In my own work, I prefer design that stands the test of time, clean lines, and a certain irrepressible freshness. However, there is one trend in the design industry right now that excites me, as it stems from an approach that is near and dear to my heart: mindful design.
I’ve always believed that a well designed space promotes health and wellbeing in the people who use it, and it’s wonderful to see leading companies and brands shift in the same direction — from flooring company The Mohawk Group, to the long-established paint brand Sherwin-Williams.
I’m reflecting on this trend, how it’s showing up in the industry, and what it means for all of us (not just designers) in my latest column for The Santa Fe New Mexican. I invite you to read it, and let me know what you think of this mindful design trend in the comments below. I would love to hear your thoughts!
